BEAR TREKKING IN THE DOLOMITI

DAY BY DAY ITINERARY

DAY 1- BELLUNO NATIONAL PARK


Private transfer from Venice airport to the Dolomites, in an area that was visited on several occasions from bears. First trekking path within the National Park of the Belluno Dolomites and arrival at a mountain hut. Overnight in the hut, in a wonderful natural environment.


TOUR HIGHLIGHTS:

 

  • Overnight in the original frame of the mountain hut "settimo Reggimento Alpini".

  • Bus del Buson, an evocative example of prehistoric fossil bed of a river.


DO NOT MISS:

 

  • Breathtaking views of the Schiara Group, UNESCO World Heritage Site, with canyons, and crystalline emerald waters.



DAY 2 - CAJADA FOREST


In the early morning departure from the hut "Alpini" for another day of trekking that will be focused on the natural surroundings where several animals live: bears, lynxes, grouses, black woodpeckers, boreal owls, deer and many others. In the evening, transfer to Belluno, dinner and overnight in a local hotel.

TOUR HIGHLIGHTS:

 

  • Woods of beeches and silver firs, which represent on of the most important natural habitats of the area.

  • Privileged view of the Cajada forest.

  • The legends that tell about the fairies of the woods.



DAY 3- VALBELLUNA


Today, enjoy a pleasant walk in Valbelluna, on the left side of the river Piace, a natural environment that links the Venetian plain with the mountains. The main highlight of the visit is the famous Botanical Garden of the Eastern Alps managed by State Forestry, one of the most important botanical gardens in the whole alpine region. Afternoon free to relax in the town of Belluno (possibility of a guided visit by reservation extra package). Dinner on own and night in Belluno.

  • The Valbelluna, where nature mixes its own peculiarities and merges features of two different habitats.

  • The Botanical Garden of the Eastern Alps, full of local herbs, flowers, and autochthon varieties.

DAY 4- CANSIGLIO FOREST


Today, you will enjoy a special tour of local cultural and natural attractions: first of all you will stroll down Cansiglio Forest, a regional natural reserve, where you will visit the Cimbri Museum. Then you will proceed to the Cansiglio Forest and admire the local fauna and flora, observing the phenomenon of thermal inversion and the several kinds of plants and animals living in the area. Transfer back to Belluno and overnight.

TOUR HIGHLIGHTS:

 

  • Cimbri Museum: Cimbri were an ancient Germanic population devoted to wood manufacturing, who settled in this area, now inhabited by the descendants of those populations that are now recognized as linguistic minorities.

  • Cansiglio Forest, a perfect example of unspoilt nature.

  • The phenomenon of thermal inversion: on the higher ridges the beech forest grows.

  • The September mating season of deer.



DAY 5- BEAR TREKKING


Today is the real day of the bear! The trekking path of today will focus on the area where bears live permanently after their spontaneous arrival. You will walk along the same paths that the bears walk during the night, with respect and without disturbing them. You will seek their tracks, the trees on which they rub their backs, the observation points from which are picked up and recorded their trips. In the late afternoon, return back to Belluno, dinner on own and overnight.

  • The bear traces and natural habitat to discover and admire.



DO NOT MISS:

 

  • The casere, the typical diaries used in the summer period to lead grazing animals or to cut wood.


  • The berries and fruits that grow spontaneously in the forest.



DAY 6-VALMOREL


Today’s visit will be centered around Valmorel, which is the terrace overlooking the valley and the mountains in front of the territory of Belluno's Dolomites National Park. The start of the trail is at the hut, which will be worth a restoring stop on the return: small ponds and spring water are the first naturalistic habitat that we will meet, together with wild animals, from birds to mammals. Return to Belluno, dinner on own and overnight in a local hotel.

TOUR HIGHLIGHTS:

 

  • Valmorèl, the kingdom of lawns, wide plains and cultivated hay meadows, small towns scattered on the slopes, traditional dairies.. The floral aspects then will amaze the lovers for the variety of species present in this climatic border area climate…



DAY 7-BELLUNO NATIONAL PARK


Your tour will finish with an easy hiking path just inside the Belluno's Dolomites National Park. The valley protagonist of this visit is in fact included within the boundaries of the Park. The combination of rock and water often offers spectacular sceneries, fruit of centuries of mutual coexistence. The visit to the nearby waterfalls completes the morning and finishes the package.
