HOUR BY HOUR ITINERARY

08.30am :


Private transfer from Florence city centre or from alternative locations to Siena, one of the jewel-cities of Tuscany.


10.00am :


Meeting with your private guide in Siena for a 3 h walking tour of the city: vist of the Cathedral, Piazza del Campo & Palazzo Pubblico, as well as of the historical centre. The Siena Cathedral (Duomo), begun in the 12th century, is one of the great examples of Italian Romanesque-Gothic architecture. Within the Sacristy are some perfectly preserved renaissance frescos by Domenico Ghirlandaio, and, beneath the Duomo, in the baptistry is the baptismal font with bas-reliefs by Donatello, Lorenzo Ghiberti, Jacopo della Quercia and other 15th century sculptors. The shell-shaped Piazza del Campo, the town square, which houses the Palazzo Pubblico and the Torre del Mangia, is another architectural treasure, and is famous for hosting the Palio horse race. The Palazzo Pubblico, itself a great work of architecture, houses yet another important art museum.

Lunch in typical agriturismo in Siena surroundings, where you will have local delicious dishes for lunch based on home-made and organic products.



03.00pm :


Departure to San Gimignano, that is considered the medieval Manhattan: while in other cities, such as Bologna or Florence, most or all of their towers have been brought down due to wars, catastrophes, or urban renewal, San Gimignano has managed to conserve fourteen towers of varying height which have become its international symbol. There are also many churches in the town; the Communal Palace, once seat of the podestà, currently home of the town gallery; four beautiful squares. Take a stroll down S. Gimignano wonderful medieval streets and let it enchant you.

Transfer back to Florence or to alternative destinations.
