UDINE AND S. DANIELE

HOUR BY HOUR ITINERARY

09.00am :

Private transfer from Venice to S.Daniele, one of the most beautiful Renaissance village in Italy. It is an intimate town caracterized by a cozy atmosphere and overlooking the surrounding countryside. Meet your private guide for an evocative walking tour of the city centre, including the ancient Town Hall, built in the 15th century, and now base of a prestigious library with medieval and Renaissance manuscripts; the oldest house of San Daniele, dating back to the 14th century and hosting a small museum with World Wars’ relics; the Castle with its little, charming church of the 15th century…and many other attractions.

12.30pm :

Your guide will lead you to one of the numerous prosciutto factories, where you will have the possibility of experiencing a lunch based on local products only and on authentic prosciutto especially. As a matter of fact, S.Daniele micro climate enables it to mature in an excellent way: this is the reason why the quality and the taste is so good. With prosciutto, have a glass of local wines such as Sauvignon, Merlot and many others.

02.30pm :

Private transfer from S.Daniele to Udine, the main city of Friuli region. Visit the town focusing on the wonderful historical centre, where you will admire several attractions, such as the old residence of the patriarchs of Aquileia, the palazzo Patriarcale, the church of Santa Maria della Purità, that has 18th-century frescoes by Giambattista Tiepolo and his son Domenico; the church dedicated to St. Mary of the Castle, probably the oldest in Udine, judging from extant fragments dating back to the Lombard era; the main square (Piazza della Libertà), with its wonderful town hall (Loggia del Lionello) built in 1448–1457 in the Venetian-Gothic style, and its clock tower (Torre dell’Orologio) resembling that of the Piazza San Marco in Venice. The center of Udine is dominated by the Castle, built by the Venetians from 1517 over a Lombard fortification ruined by an earthquake in 1511. The current Renaissance appearance dates from the intervention of Giovanni da Udine, who finished the works starting from 1547. The castle houses one of the most ancient Parliament Halls of Europe.

05.00pm :

before leaving for Venice, have a traditional Spriz, the wonderful aperitif based on authentic Prosecco wine and Aperol. Afterwards, transfer back to Venice.
